Does anyone have an view on this project, specifically the impact on West London/Ealing and how likely it is to go ahead.

It is part of a huge rail upgrade programme that TfL have been involved in for some time - this also includes the new St Pancras, and Kings Cross developments (they are by London Continental Railways). It also integrates into the new Thameslink box and the new East Coast line terminal at St Pancras.

Some of it has to be in place for the Olympics, as they were part of the bid proposal.

Don't know what effect it's going to have on West London, although the prices around St Pancras/Kings Cross are shooting up as it's trying to be a new professional area, with top shops, bars, restaurants vying for St Pancras custom (as it will be the new Eurostar base).

Crossrail is very overdue (hmmm, train analogy...) - it's a copy of the extremely successful RER in Paris.

I think it's very likely to go ahead - and there's a raging argument about it in Berkshire.

Where should the Crossrail terminate in the West? Well the government, in its infinite wisdom, has selected Maidenhead. I suspect this is in order to reduce the amount of semi-fast trains from Reading-Paddington, which stop at M'head.

Look further West and you have Reading, the 2nd busiest station outside of London. Great West Trains to the West Country, Virgin cross-country trains to everywhere (literally) etc.

But no, it will end at M'head, with it's 2 stop branch line to Henley

dont be so sure it will go ahead without major modifications to the scheme. There are also major arguments in maidenhead regarding trains terminating there nad car parking.
