I have a list of areas I want to focus a marketing effort at but I need to translate that to a postcode list. Ideally I would the first four digits of the post code. Anyone got any idea where I can get that kind of info? The post office can't provide it!

I can purchase a printed atlas which goes down to 3 digits which would be OK but something PC based would be better and 4 digits would be ideal.

Thanks

When you say a list of areas what do you mean? Do you mean counties, towns, or particular areas of towns or a list of grid coordinates?

I have a list of towns or ares within those towns.

For example - I need Southend East and Leeds City
I also need Kensington and Golders Green.

One assumes that postcode areas are more dense in London than anywhere else.

Pies - thanks. Ideally I need something similar for the rest of the UK and something that goes up to next level of detail if you know of anything? Thats certainly massivly helpful to start working with though.

Not sure if I quite follow what your after but I have a CSV file with

Place, Area, Postcode

e.g
Altens, Aberdeen City, AB1

About 25,000 records coving the whole of the UK.

I can send it too you if you like. Post code is only first 3/4 digits though (i.e NW1).

The only way I can see to get what you want is to define the areas you want by the local authority ward codes or names. The Royal mail PAF has this information and you should be able to buy the postcodes for particular wards from someone like this www.allies-computing.co.uk/datasupply.html.

www.election-maps.co.uk/formFrame.htm will help you identify the ward names you require.

Hi Adam,

I use these guys, dead easy to setup - you can setup for free and use a few times for free too.

have a look at www.postcodeanywhere.co.uk/developers/documentation/uk/

It lists the different format of data you can get direct from their servers.

Its pretty easy to develop an interface into thier system too.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

JC
