Fund transfer to Germany
Discussion
I just bought an ECU for my Audi from Germany on eBay, but the buyer only accepts money transfer (or cash on collection, not really an option!). Not strictly a "business" question I know.
Whats the best option for getting the funds transferred? Walk into my Barclays branch and ask them?

the bank should be able to tell you what to do (or maybe you can do it with online banking)
if he's german, normally they give a konto number (account number) and a BLZ which is 8 numbers, it's the bank sort code, that's good enough for a domestic transfer
ask for IBAN which is a big long number starting with DE, and SWIFT which is a 11 letter code (if it's only 8 letters add XXX to the end)
ask for the name and town of his bank too

I just made an eBay purchase from someone in the Fatherland. Apparently, Germans are not at all keen on PayPal, and would only accept a electronic transfer.
I called my bank (HSBC) and they transfered me to the appropriate department who took the recipient's SWIFT and IBAN number, along with their name, and the amount to be transfered. They charged me £9 for the service (though it can cost up to £25, depending on the bank) and the whole process took about ten minutes.
Not as cheap as PayPal, but fairly easy if you decide do it over the phone.

good god, it costs me practically nowt and takes a minute on the computer
well i'm with a german bank (what with living in germany and all)
all bills and payments are done with these transfers, and the EU says these IBAN and SWIFT ones should cost the same as domestic ones
post me a cheque plus about 3 quid for cheque charges and i'll transfer it for you if you want
(or you can buy the 924 manual off wildoliver that i want for a tenner and slip 28 quid inside it and post that to me
)
actually, i have paypal too, you could pay me through that
all this assuming you trust a stranger on the internet
