Hey All,

It's me again. Things have gotten quiet urgent of late, I'm now looking at an eviction in a couple of weeks unless I can raise a backlog of rent money, the only thing I have of value is my business so I need to make a quick sale.

The problem is this has been a bit of a passion for me for last five years. It was one of the projects I couldn't get out of, having stopped and started so many things in my life I promised myself that no matter what I would absolutely see this one through, I would do whatever it took to make it work and write the best code of my life. Sadly I've spent all that time developing and never looked up to realise my life was falling apart and I had no clue about business.

The company is www.convea.com. It has two products, one is a business intranet suite and the other is the prize, a product called oneVision that is essentially a web-based operating system. Anyone with a bit of savvy could recoup their investment in a month or less, as well as just selling the software oneVision is also just ready to be installed on a server and ran as a subscription (or free) service. It's what Google and Microsoft have been talking about for years, an environment where people simply create an account and install any web applications they need to suit a requirement. It could also be sold to other developers as a base platform or value-add for any future projects they take on. The scope is enormous.

Of course the websites, domains and everything else related to the project is included in the sale. I've recently just acquired merchant status on NoChex too so your payment system is in place too and ready to accept international payments up to £2500 per transaction.

Buy it and run it, or buy it and sell it on, or buy it, promote it and sell it on for a lot more than I'm asking. There's so much to be done but sadly it's just about killed me doing it and I simply have to raise some cash before I end up homeless.

I'm asking for £15,000 ono. Sites with single web applications have been acquired for millions, I've written 40+ plus an OS-like platform, so you can see there is some value here.

If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact me at alan.c5@ntlworld.com

Cheers,
Alan

PS The old site is still available at www.convea.com/olddefault.asp

The current site is what I was hoping to launch, oneVision as a service and product but unfortunately I couldn't afford a dedicated server on which to host it. Aint life a bitch, eh?

Really sorry to hear of your problems.

I'm completely computer illiterate but hope that
you manage to salvage the situation.

Good luck!

Alan I've been trying to reach you for weeks. I had two Business Angels ready to look at a full funding proposition for you. Have you had a chance to prepare any of the papers I asked you to?

Alan,

Sorry to hear of your problems. If you can try for some investment – keep some sort of share in the company, if it takes off you would be kicking yourself for giving it up.

Your site looks excellent too – stick with it if you possibly can. I seam to remember when you posted once before some PHers expressed an interest to buy some shares… why not offer up some shares in the company. Worth a shot surely.

If you need some space on a dedicated server let me know, we have several and if the bandwidth isn’t too bad you can use some space to get you going, free. They are all Linux.

I would quite like to have a play with the demo version again, if I can use it for something I will have one of your £99 licenses before you sell it on.

Best of luck though mate, it would be a shame to see all that effort wasted.

You know what - I really like the whole concept and this looks to be better than anything similar I've seen.

I'm sat here thinking we are all going to be sat around in 2 years saying... "we could have bought convea for 15k... and now look at how much its worth!" Unfortuantely I don't know enough about the market and subject matter to take it on anyway.

I've read different articles on web based o/s and apps, and there are mixed reviews, of course the people who say it'll never catch on are the ones most likely to lose out if it does....And the proof is in the pudding, there are other businesses doing this, I believe one of the ex partners of Oracle setup a company to do exactly this, and I'm pretty sure he's already turning over £££££.

If I was not in the final stages of launch preparations of my own business I'd be incredibly tempted, but then glad I'm not, as I said before, it's not really my area, but still....

I wish you all the best and hope you get it sold soon.

Good luck.

JC

What a fantastic opportunity, good luck with the sale, if you are forced. I never realy knew this product existed, there must be millions of me out there, so what if it was promoted more before concluding your efforts?

The idea is brilliant!!! Couldn't we create a "PH members software foundation company", reducing our outlay. I dont have £15k, but might find a fraction of it.

Just one piece of constructive advice. You're coming across as desparate (which you are), if I wanted to buy your company I'd screw you big time on the price. As such, if I were in your shoes I'd have a veneer of 'non distress'. Also, if the product's as good as people on here have suggested then it might be worth a hell of a lot more than 15k. Accordingly, rather than quote a figure, I'd stress:

1) The future potential.

2) The thousands of R&D hours you've invested.

Then invite bids.

About to dash out for a good long drinking session with a few of PH's finest. However, I'll keep this in the back of my mind and come back with something a little more constructive tomorrow...

Initial thoughts are:
* The main thing missing from what you've said/what I've seen at a quick glance is a sales and marketing plan, which'd not only help you sell the business lock-stock, but also make it far more saleable as a going concern
* There's probably an option around somebody buying a chunk of the business... 51% to much-much-more, to ensure you get capital, you get some kind of return on any success of the system, and that the new owner gets your (expert) input

Not sure I'm in the position to buy it outright at the mo given the new house and cars in the last couple of months - depending on how much of a no-brainer it is when I look/think in more detail. But I could be tempted to "contribute" towards funding for it if we can all come up with a plan for who to sell it to (and how to sell it to them). Will ponder on it today...

Depending on selling it later IMO. We just need thirteen more people willing to take a gamble. Seems very interesting the more I look into it.

Whether the venture succeeds or not will have nothing to do with owning the IPR and everything to do with the management of the business. Personally, I wouldn't invest a penny into anything (no matter how good the idea) unless I was 100% confident in the manager who's driving the business forward.

Without wishing to sound cynical, this is the second time this business has been "for sale". This time for far less then was originally mentioned.

Just smells a bit fishy to me.

The curveball, however, is the fact that there is a working product to hype - not just a promise of one.

Are we taking this forward to a group investment? Lots of thinking but no "doing" now.
