Hi Guys

Does anyone work in the Venture Capital industry? I've been thinking of doing an MBA (at a top 10 business school) with a view to working in VC when I graduate and was keen to hear others experience?

Cheers

Although not a VC myself, I provide leverage debt to support MBO's (management buyouts) that are backed by private equity firms, so have spent years dealing with people in the VC community.

In terms of recruitment the best way in to this area seems to be from either accountancy firms (ACCA qualifications etc), investment banking , corporate finance, or with true industry experience(detailed sector knowledge that can add value). Some houses also recruit people straight from MBA's but this is less so now adays that a few years ago. It all depends upon what sort of a house you are planning to work for in the longer term, some don't / won't recruit MBA's at one end of the spectrum whilst other only recuit people with them.

I would suggest haveing a look at the BVCA web site (www.bvca.co.uk - I think) as I seem to remeber there is a section on there about getting into the industry also lots of links to various houses which might have some details.

A further point worth noting is that it is very difficult to get a job in the VC world if you are much more than 30 yrs old unless you have an industry back ground.

Hope this helps and good luck.
