HMRC have just announced that 150,000 Statements of Account sent out on 15 June to Self Assessment tax payers are incorrect. Replacement corrected ones were sent out on 29 June.
Whether you have a correct or incorrect Statement of Account, it is still your legal obligation to pay the correct amount due on 31 July. If you pay the wrong amount based on one of these incorrect statements, you will still be charged interest if you underpay.
Umfortuantely, they have also sent out 150,000 incorrect statements to the accountants and agents who act for these people and they have announced that they will NOT be sending corrected statements to these accountants.
