I have two mobile phones, one for work and one personal. I get pissed off carrying two around.

Is there any way that I can use one phone for both? I seem to remember seeing something about dual sims somewhere but can't remember where.

I am on o2 and will need to stay with them as I get a very good deal on my personal phone tariff.

Yeah you can get the twin sim adapter, but (if I can remember correctly) you have to turn the phone off and on again to swap the sims (basically you can’t have them both 'online' at the same time)

Please correct me if im wrong

yeah i'm wanting much the same thing as i get fed up of carrying two fones around .. you can get dual sim switchers off ebay but i've never wanted to buy one in case both my sims get fried and i lose all my contacts .. apparently you have to power each sim up in turn to use it and power the fone down inbetween so the next time you power up the fone it registers on the other sim? is that right? are there any downsides like having the sims external to the fone and thus needing some sort of cabling for external power suppies?

Didn't orange offer a service like this a few years ago. Seem to vaguely remember two frineds having it (although a few mates used to work for Oange so it may not have been publicly available). One handset with two numbers and you could decide if and when either of them is on divert to messages.

Orange Line2 I think it was. A guy I used to work with had it: 1 SIM, 2 numbers. The Nokia handset he had flashed a symbol to show which line was ringing...

This dual sim thing sounds a bit crap to me, having to turn the phone off to swap over and only being able to use one at a time. I can't see the point in that myself.

However the Orange Line 2 thing sounds just the job. I will look into that but knowing my luck they probably don't do it anymore.

Just looked on the Orange website and they still do Line 2, only problem is that I will need to start over again with new network, new numbers etc but it sounds like just what I have been looking for. Oh, and I am also locked in to my o2 contact for another 7 months.

Are you sure you will need new numbers? most companies now allow you to transfer numbers regardless of what network you are on.

Easy:

1) call O2 to change your tariff to their cheapest one (£9.99 per month IIRC)

2) Wait until the tariff change has been actioned.

3) Ring back to O2 and request your PAC number stating that you wish to pay off the balance of your contract (hence step1)

4) Get you PAC and join Orange. You will be given a temporary number for a few days whilst your old number goes over to Orange.

5) Bob's your Uncle.

you can get a dual sim setup working on a phone without having to turn the phone off and power back up...

if you buy the software to unlock your phone, it is then possible for your phone to be connected to 2 sims at the same time and recieve calls on both one just goes into call waiting or diverts to answerphone..

This mainly works on Nokia phones but does work on selected Sonty phones.

I try and dig out the link..
