Hi,

Although at this stage I don't need a website, I would like to register a domain name so as to use a more prfessional sounding enail address on my business cards as opposed to googlemail etc etc. Is this something that you at Resgister 1 can do? I need access via webmail and use through Outlook as well.

What do you charge for the above?

Anyone recommend others?

Thanks,
BF-Neil

Jamie's your man. He's probably still in bed though... hehe

Check www.register1.net for details. You can buy the domain on there without any problems. Then you'll need some hosting which I think Jamie does for £33ish a year.

Then you've got plenty of space for your emails and if you want to add a website its easy to upload.

Initially you can just buy the domain through Register1 and have yourname@yourdomain.co.uk forwarded to your googlemail account free.

Which means you can go ahead with stationary etc and then when a website is ready to go and you need the space you can buy the server space and turn it all on properly.

Hummm ..... I do recommend JamieB 1000%, but I would add 1 thing ...

If you are going to have a professional email address, on a professional card, then some folk might/would expect a professional website as well.

Now, it does not have to be huge website or anything. Just keep it to 1 page, with all the relevant details that [potential] customers might or would be interested in.

If you're not savvy on building a page, then I'll be only too glad to help, for free I hasten to add, and no catches, either now, or long term.

But speak to JamieB first .... no doubt he'll be along shortly

Edited to add: And with 51 PH recommendations I don't think you can go wrong .... www.pistonheads.com/recommendations.asp?id=5342

Guys,

Thanks for your help with this and so I'll await Jamies response.

Kinky, I might just take you up on your kind offer and so thanks. Is there an email address that I can reach you on?

Cheers,
BF-Neil

Meeting all morning, resulted in a nice sale so all's good

Neil, as plotty says, the Standard domain account gives you forwarding to your own alternate email

if you want real email (own SMTP / POP3 / Webmail / IMAP) and you own website, then you just need to get a VDS / VDS Pro package.

The VDS Pro is the most popular, and is on offer, buy for 2 years, get the third year free.. and get a free domain.

it comes with unlimited email accounts, email vacation responders, email aliasing, webmail, unlimited ftp 2GB of Disk Storage and 100GB of monthly transfer.. It also comes with a raft of 'powertools' essentially quick'n'easy install applications (Image Gallery, Shop, Blog, Forums etc) it also supports SSL for online security (to encrypt your webmail transactions etc)

Let me know if you have any queries.

Register1 is recommended by 51 PH'rs

Thanks to all those who have replied and thnx to Kinky for the Email.

rofl...who are you trying to kid????

I'll translate ...

"Meeting all morning" means you've been in bed til 20 mins ago!!!
"...resulted in a nice sale" means you've now wandered downstairs to the cafe to buy yourself breakfast (lunch to anyone else)!!!

? How do you mean?

I have several companies.

Serverstream is our Managed Services Division
Register1 is our low cost branch.

No names changed ever

i-Dot was a cobalt networks brand, as cobalts became end of life, so did i-Dot.
It was a low cost option that I wasnt really involved with.

iirc it was closed in 2001

Serverstream is / was / always will be Serverstream
Ditto Register1
