Using a dissolved company name...

Apologies for the multitude of questions.

What are the implications of using a dissolved limited company name? Is it acceptable or is it asking for a whole heap of trouble and a bunch of hassle from disgruntled customers of the former company?

Ltd. name companies for what I'm considering doing are pretty heavily subscribed already and I'm struggling to find a free one.

Failing that, what's the consensus on using a name one letter out from an existing company? Ie. their name is plural whereas one of my ideas is singuar.

If you are in doubt as to whether a company name is available, check with company names. Names of dissolved companies are usually free to be used again.

You really don't want to be confused with a company of similar/previously named company...it can be very messy...

Gota watch out for "passing off" if you call yourself something very similar to someone else... chances are Companies House would reject it anyway I *think*.

There seem to be a lot registered with one character difference or the same name where one is dissolved. I would like the company name to accurately describe what I'm considering doing but trying to find a matching company name and internet domain name is a bit of a mare.... I know how women must feel when they're buying their shreddies now

Having said that, I've just realised that some of the domains that were registered to dissolved companies are probably redundant

There is a nasty wrinkle with "dissolved" companies. Ones which are "struck off" the register rather than being wound up can be reinstated and are then treated as having never been struck off. That means you have two companies with the same name and that's when the writs start flying.

If you want to use the same name as a dead company make sure there is no chance of it rising Frankenstein like from the tomb

Be wary of using a disolved name. We got one by accident then people started chasing me for rent, had a lot of trouble getting them to believe we are a different company, getting anything on credit was difficult for 6 months etc.
