Is there a way of setting this up so that your competitors' ads don't come up??? For instance if one of their search words is the same as your catch words can you block them?

dont think so. you can outbid them, but not block them (why would Google bother - less revenue for them). Quite common for advertisers to bid on adsense to appear for searches using competitors name.

No you can't block competition unfortunately. What may be appropriate and which may differenciate you a bit is to sign up for Google's "local business" advertising service. E.g. go to Google.co.uk site, type in "restaurant reading" and at the top you find a few listings for local restaurants. Not too many people use this yet and the best thing is - it's free! Obviously it's not appropriate for everyone.

Yep, not a problem.

Login to adsense,

Go to AdSense Setup -> Competitive Ad Filter
Then just add the websites you don't want advertised.

Job done.
