An earlier thread about a no-risk 165k investment sparked my interest. I have a comparable situation but with a couple of differences. I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

1) The cash is in a UK limited company
2) I am up for some risk

Pertinent facts
150k in a UK Ltd company (company does nothing now)
No other debts (business or personal)
Cash ready to invest
I live in The Netherlands and am resident there for tax purposes

Target = Capital growth over the next 20 years when I will turn it into an income generating affair. I don't need to touch the investment.

Risk profile (1 low - 10 high) = a happy 7 now but lowering over time

I may well end up with a financial advisor but I’d like to see what you good people have to say. Recommendations for quality business financial advisors will be appreciated!

Total speculation:
(1) Are you not rather limited by the your company's stated aims? I.e. if it was shoe manufacturer and says so in its letter of wotsit, can you just turn it into a de facto investment fund?
(2) If your company in effect becomes an investment fund, will it have to jump through a load of regulatory hoops?

Don't go to a financial adviser - they will advise you to do whatever makes them the most commission.
If you honestly don't know what to do with £150k, buy a Lambo Muira, do 1500 miles a year and store it carefully - in 20 years time it'll be worth lots and you'll have had some fun.

That sounds like a great idea. would be even nicer living on the continent, trouble is the 1500 miles may soon rack up. cloud9Back to day dreamingcloud9.

Yeah, that sounds like a great idea. And next time you get ill, don't bother going to the doctor. Do a Google web search and self-operate, that'll sort you right out rolleyes

Rich,

Don't be cheeky - if you honestly think financial advisors give the best possible advice regardless of the rebate or kick back then I guess you still leave a tooth under your pillow and a stocking out for Santa at Xmas. You'l find that very few people that have earn't the money themselves are stuck for ideas with what to do with it. I was serious about the Lambo though.

PS I used to be an IFA.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm just investing some spare company cash so I don't think there is any issue with the original intentions of the company.

As for IFAs, I am sure there are some good and some bad. I suppose recommendations are the only way to increase your chances of getting a good one.

If anyone has had a positive experience with an IFA, please post!

I've had some decent stuff from IFA's.

The main stuff I've had have been tax saving schemes but the IFA's are just introducing you to smart accountants.

They aren't all bad though.

The industry has changed a lot.

Some of them are a disgrace but I'm sure you could say that about any profession.

P.S. I'm not an IFA
