I have been offered the post of Sales and Marketing Consultant for a web based news/magazine service.

The company are unsure of the pricing of web based advertising, and having spent some time googling it there appears to be little info out there on any kind of pricing structure for half and full page ads on internet based magazines.

Do any of the collective have any experience of the rates charged, and are they tied to hit rates/viewing figures.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It really depends on the amount and quality of traffic expected.

Will it be cost per page impression, or per click, or a flat fee for different banner sizes per day/week/month/year?

Will in be Flash-enabled or Gif only?

Are they generic consumer adverts, or targeted at certain markets - e.g. Insurance ads command much higher prices than curtain sales.

Lots to think about. I suggest phone up your competitors in the guise of an interested advertiser and ask for their rate card and other info they would need - give your personal email address of course.

I thought about that one and thought it might be a bit cheeky, mind there's no conflict of interest different market.
