Buying a domain(s) and decent hosting??

He's priced very competitively anyway. PH'ers seem to get added customer support.

(or customer support is simply very good for everyone)

You also get lots of good reporting tools and apps with a VDS.

Friend has already signed up no for the basic package with a view to upgrade if he needs to...

i just need my domain for email use only, no website use, can anyone reccomend how i can go about doing this ? im terrible with this sort of stuff

Normally if you just buy a domain, they will give you that facility for free. At least, thats what my place did.

Can't remember the name, but they are pretty big and come up with a google search.

Get the basic VDS package from Jamie @ Register1.

Sorted.

You can then send & receive at will.

The cheap cheat is to buy the domain from Register 1, then use Gogglemail to usea fake send from address to the one on your domain. Hope that helps.

It's always nice to see existing clients so happy to recommend the service (62 PH'rs have officially recommended Register1 on PH so far!), gives me a smile (and in turn means I smile at the Reg1 Support Staffers a little more )

Or you can do as I have, and go with www.xsession.com (a steer from another PH'er) who charge 20UKP a year for 5 POP3 accounts. But then again, Jamie B does give excellent support to all PH'ers!

You came here probably after seeing a mail of yours being rejected with a message like this:

The mail server generating this error message is using a system called Greylisting to filter spam and viruses. It relies on Mail Servers behaving according to the standards and usually doesn't require any action by the user. Your mails should only possibly be delayed.

If you see this error message while sending a mail, it probably means that you did something wrong: the configured mail server should trust your machine and thus not apply greylisting at all.

Make sure that you did turn on encryption and authentication for the SMTP server in your mail client. Ask your system adminstrator if you are not sure about how to configure it.

Who to contact in case of problems
By the URL (web address) that you used, it can be deducted that you had problems when sending a mail to somebody@yourdomain. The right contact-address for problems with the yourdomain domain is postmaster@yourdomain.

Looks like your mailserver is trying to be too clever for it's own good.

I expect mine will accomodate it but it's delaying ALL mail by 5 mins to try and softly weed out spam!
