I have used 1and1 a lot.
They provide a great service. I started off with just the domain name and email address and they provide email hosting where you can either access mail through the net by logging in or by getting it send straight to your outlook account on your PC.
www.1and1.co.uk
Email hosting for up to 5 accounts is the princely sum of 81p per month, and they also do domain registration for .co.uk for about a fiver too.

That would be this 1&1. Just for a balanced veiwpoint you understand.
Yep We had this problem with some of our clients hosted accounts. We switched all of them early into our own hosting free of charge. 1 and 1 took the arse because they twigged what we were doing. We got a very snotty and unproffessional email from some jumped up little tit from 1and1, but our customers always come first.

Jamie, I'm planning on moving my business domain to your VDS Pro service. How easy is it to move from my existing host to you?
Short Answer, Easy so long as your current host dont hate you.
Long Answer...
Go to www.Register1.net
Type in the domain you want to transfer in the search box
hit Search
Select to 'Transfer'
Pick your hosting package (buy for 2 years, get the third year free!)
Check out
If you have a .uk Domain, simply have your current ISP change the IPS TAG to TUCOWS-CA .. Job Done
for all others, an email will be sent to the domains listed ADMIN EMAIL contact asking them to APPROVE the transfer
They will need to enter a code sent in the email to approve Stage1
They will then need to enter a code provided by your CURRENT registrar to complete stage2 (just ask your current provider for the AUTH CODE for the domain, they MUST give it to you)
The losing Registrar then has SEVEN days in which to DENY the transfer before it is automatically ACCEPTED... Job Done.
You can upload your site straight after ordering, and once ready to 'go live' simply change the NAMESERVERS to
ns0.Register1.net
ns1.Register1.net
ns2.Register1.net
You can do that from EITHER your existing Registrar if the transfer hasn't completed yet, or us, if it has
Hope this helps.

oo, feel for you.
first rule of domains - if you want it or you're thinking about it - just buy it. chances are as you found out the hard way - someone else snaps it up just before you finally make your mind up.
been there done that!
