If I want to contact an MP in relation to a business matter, do I contact "my" MP or the MP in whose constituency the business is based?

I think you have to go through Mr Brown or Mr Prescott for that, they will want a little 'drink' on that one...

Do you have a ranch or holiday complex you are putting them up in, or are you merely looking for a place on the honours list?

Seriously though, if you are contacting them as a private individual, you should contact direct I would have thought. It would also depend on your query, your local MP is your representative but you may get a quicker answer going direct?

I wish!

This actually relates to a proposed (and ludicrous) change of regulation that will affect all business dealing with the Public Sector - as soon as I get the full details, I'll put up a seperate post!

Hmm, this may affect me! Any chance of a clue?

For that kind of thing your MP is best.

I've been told by our Accountant that from 2008, all businesses doing business with the public sector must show that 25% of their workforce comprises:

Women/Gay/Ethnic(non-white indigenous)/etc...

As I say, I don't have the full details but as soon as I do, I'll post them!

Try here: www.writetothem.com/ Although I would have thought a direct letter (via local office or HofP) would work better.

Sounds v unlikely - would be wise to ensure your business is "representative" and meets any terms required by any of the relevant current acts on discrimination...but to enforce a "25% rule% would cause problems. What if, say, you only employed one person?

(!!!)

I cant see that working in practice. I just cannot see when a decorating company goes to refit a school the head asking, "So... how many gays you got!?"

Insane. I agree with your sentiments. Also what happens if a deal is struck and Joanne from accounts leaves to have baby thus the magic percentage is lost, is the job cancelled!? At cost to the company and of course cost to the taxpayer?

Its a can of worms so big it must have been proposed my the most blinkered of PC idiots.

Spoke to a Local Authority client today who said that there had been word of this doing the rounds - apparently, it's an ammendment to government "Best Practice" advice in the procurement of contracts and services from a single company with a value over a certain amount.

My client also said that this is laughable and unworkable and made the valid point that there are some religions that cannot work with women, so we could meet the requirements on head count but be in breach of human rights by forcing them to work with women.
