Business Forecast: Quiet?
Discussion
Scandinavian > English translation workloads have been through the roof for months now. Companies are booking early because it's impossible to source translators who can fit in work. I've been up-to-capacity busy now for several years, but last October the pressure really started to pile on. Traditionally the market slackens off in January until the annual reports start to arrive in late February, but this year there's been no let-up at all. I've been working massively over capacity for a couple of months now.
That said, today has gone very quiet. But that's only because they're all having the day off over there.
Talking to my clients, they're all snowed under with work too. So I don't think it's just Scandiwegian > English that's experiencing this enormous peak either.

We are very quiet, worst for over 10 years!! Talk of redundancies if things don't pick up in the next few weeks!
But you are in a construction related business, and construction is very busy at the moment isn't it? (everyone I know is)
But unfortunetly the area in which I specialise, and work only with one main client, is very quiet - even though it shouldnt be in theory.

Do it quick!! I've got 28,000 words to be delivered next week that you can take on.
I'll give Morpheus from the Matrix a call. D/loaded in a few seconds... like in the film:

Isn't that a problem with your company's strategy, rather than a reflection of the industry?

You mean putting all our eggs in one basket wasn't such a good idea?

I'm sure you know your business much better than anyone, and I didn't mean to sound like a smart arse, but I had to make some people redundant a couple of years ago, and it was a horrible experience (worse for them I guess!!), although it did turn the business around.
Isn't there anyway you can diversify, given the bouyancy of the construction market?
We are quiet (the quietest ever actually).
In fact for all of May, with the exception of a few days of training I have delivered we have done nowt but tidy the office, write up long overdue reports for ourselves, chase tenders we normally wouldn't have time to chase and visit friends.
That having been said this time last year was quiet, and we are still well ahead of our own forecast on turnover, and more importantly profits this year, so no panic (yet). If it is still like this in August I may then panic.

I'm fine, I leave in 2 months anyway - but as for everyone else, who knows. I believe that it could be part of a planned implosion of the division.
Anyone who is worth their salt will find a new job within a week anyway!
