I can't believe people still use b/cards.
The electronic revolution happened a long time ago. All my contacts are on the mobile and listed in my contacts via my email client. Everything backed up so if there was a problem I can recall everything at the touch of a button.
How do you get all the info to put into the phone? Via a Business Card. The electronic revolution happened a long time ago. Business Cards are a good marketing tool because they are something for someone to hold onto, that relates to you. Not every customer who has my Business Card is organised like you, with a list of contacts in their phone.
Business Cards are a cracking invention and are hear to stay, for a a good while yet...
It depends on the type of card.
Named cards signifying a person are still important, perhaps just in a traditional sense but are also quick and easy to refer to. I think that cards for a business describing its services are even more important because I am attempting to reach punters off the street. Finally, the price implication of having cards made is quite low and therefore they are worth having.

Maybe I'm a bit Old School but I think business cards are still important.
I also think that that first impressions count so you may like to make sure that it's a good design and on decent card paper.
If someone hands me a card that looks a bit Mickey Mouse it tells me that they don't care about their business so I won't care about their business either.

American Psycho styleeee
A business card is like a mini poster if designed well.
This is one we did recently for a mate in Spain (Website on way).

When receiving my card - every single person to-date has been blown away by it, and most comments are in the line of, "That is the most dog's bollox business card I've ever seen!" - and this is from international, jet-setting City-types too.
I used a brilliant company called www.plasmadesign.co.uk.
They designed my card based on my website - it's matt black plastic - size and thickness of a credit card - with my company logo, name and contact details on it. Very slick and understated design, they came up with.
They also do metal ones!! And translucent ('sandblasted') plastic - but not all logos will work on that.
Whatever it does or doesn't achieve - it definitely minimises the chance of people simply 'binning' your card. To this day, I've been shocked to discover the number of people I'd given my card to - who still have it on them - they didn't feel like getting rid of it. In some cases - it's been a talking-point in itself.
It's actually a physically 'nice' thing - to handle and hold.
Just thought I'd throw that in - if you're about to spend money on business cards.

Business cards are essential to me!
I think EVERY time I have handed one out it has given a positive image of us as a company (however we are in the creative industry so it is important)
Our deisgn is below (i have blured some personal details...) the funny lines are actually showing where a physical 'bite' is taken out of our cards. This is punched out during production and is also replicated across our other printed materials for brand consistency.

I personaly think they are a very important part of a companies image, even if they get put int he bin afterwards, it's the intial impact that is important.
