My mother has been flooded out, and given she is 86 (and on her own) she is rather distressed about it all.

The loss adjuster has been down, but my question is, will mam's claim be reduced for any reason?

She is not under insured, house/contents are for more than the value in the house, and all contents were in good order.

If we give them a figure for contents to be replaced will the insurers try and knock the amount down?

Regards

er no why should it if its fair and reasonable she'll get paid out less any excess
as a former loss adjsuter its is the biggest load of shit that we were employed to knock claims down
fees were based on a sliding scale the more we settled the more charged

the problem arises where there is a dispute about value. There shouldn't be any as, although the goods are sodden, they are there and the value can be prooved as can ownership.

It is up to the insured to prove their value, insurers may want to replace that is their right under the policy, for that they would get a discount from a supplier, if yu want cash, they may knock thta discount off, they may not,

you could give the claim to a loss assessor who works for you but you have to pay them, they take their fee out of your settelment ie thye get the settlement cheque from the insurer and then send you the balance, i suppose there will be lots of them hawking about

many are fair but there is the roge element as alawys

Anyway there is nothing to fear from a loss adjuster, if you don't like the setlement you can always complain

just present a reasonable claim and don't over inflate it as that can repudiate the claim whcih is why most disputes arise, and like most things you only hear about the disputed ones not the thousands thta get paid very week with no dispute

I worked in insurance for over 6 years and have to agree that it's bullshit that insurance companies just knock off a % to save money. I can honestly say I never saw one settlement where the money paid out wasn't a fair price.

just dont expect the TV from 80's to be replaced with a 42" LCD
