Can a vehicle be registered to a company?
Discussion
The initial NIP would be sent to the company (the registered keeper), it is then down to the company to disclose the details of the driver.
When I used to look after my old companies fleet, I would check the database, see whos co car it was, and fill out the NIP with the drivers details & send it back to the police for them to reissue it to the nominated driver.
If it is a pool car then it is down to the responsible to keep a log of who was driving the car at the time.
You can get taken to court for non-disclosure of driver details.

However if your drivers, unknown to you, haven't been filling in the log, and you can show that you've tried everything you can to name the drivers, and a senior representative of the company goes to court and presents said evidence, then you can get away without the point being assigned to anyone. When I used to look after my old companies fleet, I would check the database, see whos co car it was, and fill out the NIP with the drivers details & send it back to the police for them to reissue it to the nominated driver.

I'm not saying our FD was happy about having to go to court in Leicester, no sir.... but it got the job done!

True we did do that once, but if the situation kept getting repeated the court would throw the book at the company.I'm not saying our FD was happy about having to go to court in Leicester, no sir.... but it got the job done!
It was the same with our foreign drivers (mainly from Italy, and a high % of the NIP's would be down to them) in the end one police force didn't take too kindly to not being able to distribute the points, so means tested one employee & clobbered him with a huge fine.

I'm pretty sure the Company Secretary (not the one who answers the phone) would be legally responsible for naming the driver.
You're quite right, but we didn't have a dedicated secretary at the time, the FD did that role, hence it was him who experienced the legal system!!Gassing Station | Business | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
