Hi there,

I’m looking for some advice on options for long term investments to supplement my work pension.

I am considering moving jobs and my new employer offers a money purchase scheme pension. I have been with my current employer for 10 years and paid into their final salary pension scheme for the last 9.5 years. I am 32 years old and am aiming for a retirement age of between 55 and 60.

If I do decide to move jobs and lose my final salary pension scheme what other options are there for long term investments over the next 20-25 years? I can make Additional Voluntary Contributions to both my existing final salary pension scheme and the money purchase scheme offered with the new job. I already have a second property that I rent out and I see this as a long term investment.

If I do not accept the job offer it is still unlikely that I will remain at my current job for the rest of my career. It is also almost certain that if/when I do move jobs that my new employer will not offer a final salary pension scheme.

I am not totally risk adverse but I would like a long term investment in addition to my second property and company pension scheme to spread the risk.

Thanks and all the best.
