While discussing ad renewal with the guy from directory company, oh, can't remember their name, yellow book...

Couple of years ago companies were giving themselves a '123' prefix to get ahead of the alphabetical listing... then everyone did it... so they started getting clever by placing a dot before the name, like .A-company etc.

Now, they're all placing 'AAAAAA' to get in front. I mean, WTF???

Where does it end? Will it do the full circle so that we all get listed in alphabetical order? Or will everyone be known as A-whatever??

Even the big national companies are doing the AAAAAA thing.

Can I just have a listing with the company name please?

How many leads come in via YP and how many via Google these days?

For my businesses, if anyone calls in from YP they're generally not internet-literate, and therefore either stupid or poor, and therefore of little interest.

(Sorry if that sounded harsh!)

Yes, but doesn't all that depend on the classification, ie, what services you offer? I needed someone to clear a blocked waste pipe... I didn't think I'd find Mr Local Rod Man on the internet... as it happens, found more than enough to choose from in YP.

Since we stopped using YP and the other one for advertising just over a year ago and switching to nice web pages our enquiries and workload have increased 400% Now we may get 2 enquiries a month from YP and other combined. Total waste of brass.

Dude, have you seen yell.com?! I get all my numbers from there.

However, I still don't understand how they work out the ordering of results when you search for stuff on the Yell.com site.
