Currently using quickbooks 2001, and am fairly sure it will work on my new PC, but thought Id put it to you guys - whats the best/easiest accounting software package? I probably only send out 15 invoices per month, always got on well with quickbooks, although im sure people over the years have commented that sage is a far better package.

If you are happy with Quickbooks and it provides you with the information you need - stick with it.

Sage is good - but not always the right choice.

As Eric states, if it's working for you, stick with it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Having gone Quickbooks -> Sage -> back to Quickbooks, I'd say stay with Quickbooks, if you are used to using it then trying to 'learn' Sage will just be a ballache, I know I've got the T-shirt.

I know I can do 'my' accounting requirements far faster in Quickbooks than I can in Sage (similar no of invoices to you) and it gives me the information (and my accountant require) therefore it's a no brainer, don't bother changing.

Cheers. May as well stick with 2001, if I can get it working. If it is possible to import 2001 files into 2007, I doubt that functionality would be supported for too many more years to come, which was (in part) what got me thinking about possibly buying new more up to date software.

Its broke, and I cant fix it, vista just isnt having it.

You can download QB from the US site, if you live in either the US or canada rolleyes

The the UK site is down so I cant quite see at the moment, but does anyone know if one can download a copy from the UK site, im keen to get back up and running asap. By the looks of it the Pro version is needed to import old data, although I couldnt find any comments on 2001 specifically, just quicken... wasnt quicken what quickbooks was before it became quickbooks, ie if one can import quicken files then quickbooks 2001 files should be ok?

Quicken was the home version, it originally existed alongside Quickbooks

I bought my copy of 2006 Quickbooks online and it arrived next day. I would just go for that option, I managed to import QB 2003 files with no problem and I only have the regular version.

Cheers Davidy.

Not sure why, but 2001 wouldnt install on Vista, and without upgrading to a slightly newer version, and then upgrading again to 08, files cant be imported into 2008.

Simple Start does everything I need it to, its £34+ vat
The next step up is pro 2008 which costs £300

Interestingly, only the americans received the 2007 release, the pro version of which costs £100 ($200). I say interestingly as we always pay well over the odds in the UK, regardless of the nature of the product.
