Looks good. Very clean and easy to read. Is this a bespoke design or from templates?

Looks good, no problems with it. Looks like a template though - nothing wrong with that, unless you've paid for it not to be!

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

http://www.miuk.com/ is doing the work for us.

This new system will run most of our business and eliminate 80% of what we do now with Sage, including a lot of admin work.

Yes its costing us a lot of money… and yes we make “ball washers”… smile

Do you adapt peoples existing bidets or is it a standalone unit to be plumbed in?

The site is excellent, though - very neat and easy to read. I would buy stuf from it anyway.

..Just a few thoughts, do with them what you will. I'm not having a dig, but if you want some honest commentry then here goes.

( I did a lot of work a while back of GUI design and was quite ruthless with it..)

- the black is very severe - tone it down a few shades to a darker charcoal colour

- on your first page all the stuff at the bottom 'BMS is Europes.....' is in the wrong place. People want products, not to read stuff. If you want that stuff stick it in the 'about us' don't clutter up your page as it's messy. Either put in a third line of products or some kind of banner of other grabbing type thing like 'SALE ON' or something to hold the attention. A scrolling image of your product range would be useful - let the customer see the products - all of them at a quick glance.... look how BIG WE ARE, look HOW MANY PRODUCTS WE'VE GOT...

- not so sure about the quality of your photos - i'm running a very high res LCD laptop at the moment and they look as fuzzy as anything to me. I would not buy your product, I don't care how good you tell me they are, they look crap (sorry!) - you can't even produce a decent enough image......then why should I buy from you?

- I would hope your categories will be ordered alphabetically and will be expandable if they contain subdivisions?

- second link at item level: too may words. Bullet points please. Sharp, snappy and to the point No more than 6-7, ideally 5 (If you feel compelled to keep the words then do it as a separate popup or on a separate past of the screen)

- back to the photos - show images in the real world. If you are selling golf products then why are you not on a golf course??? Take the 'Track professional sprayer'. Now today my boss told me to look for a sprayer.. so i've seen yours but I've got absolutely no idea how large it is. Does it weigh 5kg or 50kg. Stick it on some 'real' chap and photo him using it in a real environment. It would give me a much better idea.

- I trust it will keep the sales history of line?

- I trust that it enables me to save my basket and go back to it later?

- you write about your highly skilled people - again I trust you will include a picture of them..and your factory. I trust it's some smart building with some decent images of the products on the production line - especially being QA'd or being tested (great subliminal messaging)

- show as WIDE a range of products as you can. You want to be able to satisfy as much of your customers needs as you can. So if you do corporate stuff then stick it in...jumpers, hoodies, hats... I don't know what you do but put it together and present it well. It really makes a difference

If this was my work and the consultant produced this as a first draft these are the things I would be thinking about. People + context + decent relevant images.. You/they have got a LOT more work to do. Honestly, I reckon you are about 20% done, maybe 30% at a push. If you can do just one thing, loose the graphic images and use real photos featuring people using your products in a real environment.

I hope I havn't offended you, but with this type of work you only get one chance to make a good impression and though this is a good start, it could be better - a lot better.

Agreed!

Christ! The input people get for free on here is amazing!

I would second the comments made. Often website designers are not marketeers - in fact they probably won't be. As will any form of advertisement you want to have as direct a connection with the viewer's 'buying mind' as possible.

1) Short snappy things to catch the interest

2) Quick navigation to see the benefits

3) Real pictures of the item (in use), testimonials etc to connect and reconfirm the need to buy and

4) A straightforward method to pay or ask final questions before making a purchase.

(Something I have always thought of is a button at the end of each product page so that if a buyer has a question a box opens up, inserts the product code and all the buyer has to type is their email address and question...)

To a greater or lesser extent, DMN's comments make sense. I'd particularly agree with:
- Include at least one real-world photo
- Alphabeticise and sub-categorise the links on the left
I would add that for the link box on the left, make sure the user can option-click (or Windows equivalent) to open the link in a new tab or window. I suspect many, like me, would want several pages open at once to compare, memorise, etc.

On the product page, I actually like the "honest, if slightly verbose" commentary. You can overdo bullet points, especially if it's not an expert buying. I think that's just about the right amount of copy and level - it gives me confidence that I'm buying the right item, and that you actually know what you're talking about. But where appropriate, go to another page or pop-up if you need to get really technical (e.g. the sprayers technical specs, items included, etc.). I would also suggest:
- As well as summarising benefits/advantages, consider where appropriate "Use For" (e.g. why I should be buying a manual push-spiker over a trailer job)
- List all the relevant items in the particular sub-group: you mention replacement spikes, so where are they?
- For each sub-group, write unique copy. So the copy for push-spikers will be different from that for trailer spikers. Buyers won't notice it, but they will pick up on the lack of professionalism if you repeat the same copy in different places.

They are a company that I use and do this very well.

It does actually sound like they know about and tested each product personally, it makes the difference to me over the 'stack it high and sell it cheap' types.

This is only a quick first off design. You comments are most welcomed, thanks!

1/ 90% of the people who will buy our stuff are professionals who already know what they want. This is a tool to hopefully make transitions from what is a very old industry into the 21st century. Some of our products are also totally unique, we are the only people in the world making them.

2/ Pictures… if you see a picture of a 17mm combination spanner, do I really need to show a picture of someone taking an engine out with it… no. however I do agree that some working shots are required, and will be added over time. Clicking on the home page picture/name will take you through to a secondary page specifically about that product. We can have 10 more pictures at the second level if require. Many products will also have movie clips and technical PDF downloads to follow.

3/ Colours, the blacks and greens will be played around with until more appealing.

4/ Image quality. What you have seen are simply jpeg screen shots, and are a little fuzzy. The end result will be nice and sharp with more bells and whistles.

5/ A-Z text, agree this needs doing.

6/ + almost everything else you guys have mentioned will be added/available.

agree, thumbnail text alone makes a big difference.
