If an employee's pregnant wife is sick and needs constant care from him (along with their toddler), what are the guidelines regarding the employee taking time off to do this? Is there statutory pay of any kind, or would it simply be unpaid leave (assuming no holiday left)?

Check the ACAS website - but I think you'll find that it's unpaid. Might be worth checking if the individual can work a few hours from home - thats a win for both of you

It will be unpaid leave. Paternity pay is only applicable after the baby is born.
