Looking at what would be good to target over the next 10+years in terms of a business and got thinking about what general demographic / cultural trends are developing in the UK. Some random thoughts that came to me were : More older people, more immigrants, more overweight people, more people with drink related problems - really just thinking about current trends and where they are going. I guess a rehab clinin for OAPs with multilingual staff could be a niche ?

So does anyone on here use a more scientific approach to future trends and what they can mean for businesses - any good reports / agencies to use etc...??

This and anyone elses random thoughts welcomed !!!

Obviously, the part that matters is looking at these trends and putting a business idea around them - the next steps me thinks.

Poorer people in general, esp working age people, and a wealthy older population IMO will see a reduction in people taking foreign holidays and a revival in the UK holiday industry.

I also think it will become less fashionable to have a sun tan ( that's purely guess work, but things come and go, and suntans came with the costs in the 80's )

I'd say a well run B&B or hotel on the South Coast could do very well.

High end Uk to UK cruise ship lines: P&O, Cunard and perhaps Celebrity? Spin off businesses might be door-to-door elderly and disabled port transfers, bulk luggage handling etc.

I'm thinking older eastern Europeans with anorexia and bulimia, as being overweight starts to have negative connotations. So, train as a multi-lingual psychotherapist or a clothes designer for thin people?

My brother is in all seriousness going on about setting up an old peoples home ( for elderly Brits ) in the Northern, cooler, part of India.
