Are there any offshore tax specialist on here? Have just had a meeting with re a property deal which would be set up as a trust on the isle of Mann, there fees are v high so looking at possible alternatives.

Anyone used any other firms for this type of thing?

Much obliged

Tax specialists rather than accountants would be a good starting place.

Whereabouts are you?

If you want to stick with London, try people like:

Vantis
BDO Stoy Hayward
Macintyre Hudson

All big firms, but not the Big Four pricetag.

Phone around, find someone who knows their stuff over the phone, any that aren't sure, avoid, as they will be using your time and money to research a situation they're not too sure on, thus costing you money.

I used to work for a top firm, and quite frankly their fees are disturbing, sadly.

Thanks guys will have a hunt around, the fee was offensive I wont say how much but suffice to say it was probably bolstered by the brand.

Cheers

This is a very specialist area (on which I know virtually nothing) and I would hazard a guess that any advice on such matters will be fairly expensive - no matter who you turn to.

I agree totally, but it's important he finds someone with experience. Going to another 'big' firm will not neccessarily provide a suitable alternative to PWC. What they do have is the capacity to put someone on the job to do the work, potentially with little or no experience of the situation. That person will rack up a time sheet for the client, spending the majority of the time just working out what needs to be done. Because they have the 'brand' name, they're not affraid to charge the full allocated time.

I have moved from the mainland to the Isle of Man.

I would suggest speaking to a tax advisor off shore to get a point of view.

I used Ernst and Young in the I.O.M before I moved here.

I am also in property development(and if we every meet, I don't speak like a r..b..o..t!!!)
Let me know if you have any questions.

......PS. We don't have to meet

I've had a virtually identical conversation with regard to some property. Drop me an e-mail if you want to compare notes.
