FAO ERIC MC - I need your advice, Obi-Wan
Discussion
Eric
Please help.
Mum is 68, on her own and in receipt of a state pension and a small personal pension which she gets until she dies from my late Dad's employee scheme.
She pays some income tax (aboout 20 a week I think) but she has had some sort of letter from HMRC/DSS to say that she should fill in a form to find out if she's getting everything she is entitled to.
So, Obi-Wan, perhaps you could point me in the direction of where I can find if she can get help with her mortgage (300 a month interest only) and council tax....

My main area of expertise is tax rather than benefits.
So, my first query would be, is she satisfied that she is paying the correct tax on her various pensions?
Secondly, if she has a relatively low income, she might be eligible for some additional State Pension or some tax credits. However, these are not areas that I am terribly familiar with.
May the force be with you
