I'm looking to start putting some considerable effort into commercially developing (if you'll pardon the pun) my photography.

I know there's plenty of information out there (and in these forums) about driving visitors to your website and other internet related shenanigans, which I will be researching, but I'm also after pointers to info on how to let people know the service/business even exists at ground level.

One of the main reasons for that is I will shortly be without a car for a bit, so I'm going to have to start in the local area (being Edinburgh). I know there are localised resources on this here interweb, but I suspect the more traditional avenues would be more appropriate for the time being.

However, the amount of "Promise the earth" step by steps, "Never Fail" instruction articles and general snake oil out there is making the noise to signal ratio just a tad overwhelming.

Does anyone have any simple suggestions of where to start looking, or even specific pointers themselves?

Much obliged if you can help.
