Ive sent my books off to my accountant saved in as many different files I could get Quickbooks to open. For some reason they cant open any of the files Ive supplied them. They have Quickbooks 2006 and I have Quickbooks 2006 pro, which is probably the problem. Anyone help with a solution please?

Im a bit miffed that its left to me to sort out, I only moved to them because they used Quickbooks.

Quickbooks is not upwardly compatible, although I am surprised the 2006 won't open 2006 Pro, but it would make sense, if they are Quickbooks accountants, they would automatically get the most recent version of the software. I'd suggest to them that they should upgrade.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Your only chance may be to send the file to QB and ask them to change it to the 2006 version, although this make take a while if they do this anywhere near as quick as they answer the phone.

Thanks, so if my accountant doesnt have access to the latest version then there not a "quickbooks accountant"?

I changed to them because they said they could handle quickbooks, Ive already spent an afternoon meeting with them and now I seam to be providing IT support and hanging around the phone while they try to sort it out. If they cant open it I will have to try another accountant, I dont think its fair for them to charge me for anything if they cant, as promised, provide support for quickbooks. What do you think?

EDIT* The afternoon I spent with them is wasted, Ill have to do the same with a new accountant too. Im getting more annoyed...........

Don't ever chose an accountant on the basis of their IT compatibility. It is a never ending game - and most accountants can't be completely compatible with all the different book-keeping and accounting sotware systems used by all their clients.

What you want is an accountnat who is flexible. My technique is to visit a client and interrogate (with their assistance if necessary) their software system and obtain as much of the information I shall need as possible. Any nominal details, schedules or summaries I will need for my files I print out at their premises.

I take away the details and compile a formal set of accounts with corrections where necessary. I then (eventually) pay a return visit to the client where I will enter or assist theoir team to enter the final year end adjustments on their system bringing their internal accounts in line with the finalised formal accounts.

It isn't that important that |I have or don't have the exact book-keeping software my client uses on my computer. The important thing is that the essential information is obtained from the client and that the final correcing entries are put onto the client's system once the accounts have been approved by the directors or proprietors.

Hiya,

I think on the front (just after login) page there is a link to approved QB accountants - worth a try?

It was not working yesterday?

Eric is right, it's not always possible to have all software that clients use. You can print off enough material for them to work from. We don't have MYOB here but one of my colleagues has clients that use it.
