What are hits as opposed to pages.

Pages-URL (Top 20) - Full list - Entry - Exit
17 different pages-url Viewed Average size Entry Exit
/ 176 8.03 KB 152 73
/html/forsale.htm 88 7.33 KB 17 47
/html/Gallery.htm 65 6.55 KB 13 19
/html/Services.htm 60 7.67 KB 13 20
/html/TheTeam.htm 58 6.26 KB 11 16
/html/Contact.htm 40 4.89 KB 8 27

What do entry and exit and these other figures refer to.

Appreciate your help
Graham

VERY SIMPLY

Number of visits = the number of individual computers / people looking at the site

Pages are the number of page requests or pages viewed.

Hits are the amount of times a page has been viewed. So 1 visitor could produce 1000 hits

Banwidth is the amount of transmitted data used between your website and the visitor, ie information that has been sent down the phone line.

entry page is the first page a visitor views, usually Index.htm but could be any of the others.

Exit is the page they left the site on, hopefully the last page of your site.

Almost James smile

a hit is anything that generates an access_log log entry..

So if you load a page, with 9 images on it, that would create 10 hits..

this is why hits is a pretty meaningless statistic..

If you have two sites..

one with one images on a page, one with 1000 images on the page..

and they both get 1 million hits.. they both look as popular, but in reality one is 1000x as popular!

Aha..!
I was wondering what a hit relates to and how a friend's site claims thousands of hits per day. There are a lot of pics on his site..!
Thanks for this info.

Pages is the most relevant stat, use that to gauge your sites success.

Top tip, I use this on our web services and its invaluable for collating
a) Marketing info - where visitors are coming from, by region/country etc etc
b) Visitor info - what their desktop consists of, operating system, browser, screen res, plugins etc - very useful if for example your site relies on flash plugins and the like.
c) Management info similar to your opening request, but laid out in a high level management friendly manner.

and as burnt says - its free - tiny impact on performance, but so small that almost no visitor would notice.
