The wife has decided that she'll never wear a some of her gold again so wants to flog it. I'm presuming that unless I go through the hassle of trying to sell the items as 'pieces' then I will only get scrap value?

Anybody sold gold recently? I'm assuming you get weight x a vastly discounted price per gm.

I googled it and a lot of the sites that came up want you to post the stuff to them so they can value it / send you a cheque. Although many of them were probably not based in Lagos that still feels wrong - I want to see whites of eyes so if anyone can recommend somwhere in C London I'd be grateful.

You could always ebay it. Not as scrap!

Scrap value for gold is pretty low. Between £3-£8 a gram dependant on carat iirc...

Well it was a year or two ago so might of gone up a touch since.

Depending on where you live, try an Asian jeweller if the gold is 18k or above. My wife often (every 5 years or so) changes her jewellery, takes in the old stuff, and chooses a new design. Of course, she has built up a relationship over the years, so trusts them. It is quite common for asian jewellers to buy back old gold (for a very good price)
