I am involved in a mailorder company and we are just looking at upgrading our software.

We currently used Opera I for Invoicing and all of our accounts however it is very out of date and in need of bringing into the 21st century!

We have had Quotes for Opera II at around £8K for 5 users and the ability to Invoice, Stock Control, Account management (all the basics)

Is that really really expensive? What do other people use? I'm going to look at Sage today - would that be the cheapest option?

I would suggest looking for a package that best suits you businesses workflow / operations. Looking for the cheapest option may save you money on purchase but can cost you a lot of money if the system is counter to the way you operate.

I'll have a look at Interprise...

The way we work is:
B2B
Orders from phone/fax/email/post and through website.
All low value goods but lots of them.
Everyone has 30 day accounts.
Need to print statements each month.
Need to be able to talk to our CRM software.
Lots of stuff I have missed but you get the idea smile

The above is pretty standard from a small company I guess...

Any reccomendations?

Getting on my high horse here a bit but...

The 30 day accounts and statement printing are trivial. They should be included in any system.

With your business model you should be looking for the system which can manage your business processes most effectivley.

An example of this is the sales document cycle . In many high volume/low value busineses there is an enormous amount of time taken in clerical work managing the sales document cycle.

After initial order entry it should be possible to have a automated sales cycle. The works ticket/order/instruction is automaticaly generated and when the order is marked as fulfilled/complete the Dispatch/Delivery note and Invoice are generated. It is even possible to go further so that no user intervention is required at all after initial order entry.

We're actually looking at it in view to taking it on as a dealer, currently doing a full evaluation / trial. it's a very well rounded product. I would suggest that you download it, install and evaluate. The single user version of free and unrestricted..

I'd be interested in your thoughts as a end user looking to move from an alternative product.

We're a small software company who create software that works to make you as efficient as possible. Many packages require you to change your business process to fit around them, we prefer to make the software work in your environment. Think about how long it takes to process a telephone order - it should be complete by the time the receiver goes down!

Our solution can interface with Sage Line 50, or Access Horizons/Dimensions as an accounts system, meaning you may need a reduced number of 'accounts' licenses.

You don't mention what CRM software you currently use, but we can also connect with most of them!

If you're interested in discussing your exact requirements, drop me an email - the chat is free and there's no obligation.
