Hi guys,
I've been a business analyst for over 10 years of which my main responsibility is to process map business areas, analyse the results and making recommendations. In my business (Financial Services)Process maps are widely used and provide a quick and visual way to understanding a process whether it be sorting the post or making a business decision. They can help us save money and valuable resource by maximising business efficiency.

I was thinking of taking this 'skill' freelance (keeping my current job). I'm not touting for business but would like feedback on whether or not there is a need for this type of service?

Any input/pointers would be great

thanks

Would that not be covered by some of the higher level UML diagrams?

I always thought UML was just the standardisation of modelling practices from a software development angle.

I aim at actual business practices. Initially I process map all the current roles, responsibilities and associated processes. Identify weak points/duplication/wasted resource and recommend alternative methods.

In modern day business all company owners/managers need to know the ins and outs out their operation, I can help to provide this in the form of a quick reference 'process bible'

Ahh with you, I'm old fashioned, Business Analysts are the people that protect users from coders and vice versa.

Sounds like a career in Management Consulting awaits...
