Anyone here do chemical analysis at a domestic level? I've got a sample of some black deposits that have formed in our house and I want to know what it is.

This reminds me of a very informative TVR Tuscan thread where there was a definative list of when you found a liquid deposit under your car, through the taste of it you could ascertain what the liquid was!

Please note, I am not recommending you taste it! Do you think it is chemical or biological? I know a while back I moved into an old farmhouse and a guy came out to see if some of the fungus growing on the windows on the inside was toxic or not.

Where is the black stuff found?

I use Eurofins and they seem to be happy to deal with the small and occasional bits of work I put their way.

Did have to prod them a bit to get updates though.

Anywhere water has settled or dribbled. For example, shower heads, toilet bowls, taps etc. It's a black crusty substance that builds up quite quickly after being cleaned off. Definately not ordinary mould.

I'm wondering if they're Manganese deposits.
