Hi,

We are being lent a car for a week, which is insured by the manufacturer, but there is a £5000 excess. We would like to insure against this excess if possible, but our normal brokers will not do it. Is there anyone on here who can help?

You have a couple of options and I think you have tried the first by trying your current insurers to add it to your current policy. The other is to try a couple of the "short term" insurers out there, try www.tempcover.co.uk

I will look at that, but to be clear, we do not want to insure the whole car, only the excess

I don't think anyone does it as a stand alone policy, but you will be surprised how cost effective tempcover are

Tempcover don't do cars over group 18 unfortunately. Surely there must be a broker who can cover an excess - I know friends who do it with their aircraft insurance?

For a week's worth of cover, is it worth anyone's while to insure £5k?

Thats the problem, a broker would want minimum £300/£350 for this before even looking at risk and so clients would not pay.

The blunt answer is two fold, firstly lack of demand for the product means no one has launched the product. Lack of potential earnings and lack of renewable income. Have yo approached your current insurer to see if you can add it as a temporary additional vehicle. Some insurers still do it.
