I'm looking to buy websites (established ones), as well as existing businesses (with at least 2 years track record, online or offline) and wondered if anyone here has any suggestions (ie, friend of friend looking to sell etc).

I've already explored the usual routes, but unsurprisingly i'm finding that many advertised businesses (especially the online ones) are either unlikely to see out 2008 or make any money at all! I'm willing to pay a generous commission to anyone who provides information that later leads to an acquisition of either a website or business.

Please PM me about specific opportunities. Thanks for your time, Stephen smile

I do the same thing, and like you say it's not easy finding viable businesses. I assume you have gone down the usual route of, Daltons, Sedo, sitepoint etc?

Yeah, but they really are becoming a maze of crap - Sedo is always fun to look at though, I love the jokers with parked pages like e-credit-card-deals.biz who believe their domains are worth 10 figures! rolleyes My existing online portfolio turns over about seven figures, and I can tell you not 1% of that comes from domain parking (although I have dabbled wink ).

James - we should probably have a chat offline sometime, I think it would be beneficial to us both.

I would be interested in comparing notes and see if we can help each other out. I have only made one purchase this year, but for a knockdown price (about 1/5th of the asking price)

Your right though, there is a sea of sh1t out there, but the odd good one does still turn up.

How would you value a business? Interested to know what mine might be worth!

The usual stuff really, turnover, profit, value of domain name, unique visits, ranking, expandability.

Yup, factor of this, multiple of that - there are a number of methods, all rather questionable. wink

I've bought and traded many many sites and domain names - all sites in their infancy but with a potential that I could see was strong.. two of which are doing very nicely wink

Domain names, I own about 200 now and only 30 or so are of any real value but domain names are the new real estate (or so I was told).

I go to the sites already mentioned here but I also use a consultancy company who keep an eye out for me - they're called Effectual Media - just don't go bidding on any I have my eye on!

All the best smile
