Got a client who is essentially building a seasonal football type website, similar to www.sundreamteam.com in which player stats are monitored over the course of a season (to go live in 2009) and a grand prize is given out at the end of the year.

Its certainly not your average motor insurance quote, best dealt with by a specialist and not some bespotted greasy haired drooling for commissions teenage sales monkey at direct line... any suggestions for specialist underwriters?

ignore embarrassing typo in the title...

A PHer or insurance company who is able to offer an insurance policy to an unusual and fairly unique business. There is no standard package that would likely cover the needs or clauses of a company like the one in question. I'll try and elaborate:

The business model is is not a run of the mill business, its very similar to the dream team found above in the link. ie, the company takes vast quantities of money from the public, lets its members put together a virual team of football players via a website, and monitors the progress of the players over the season based on actual performance in real league games. Prizes are given to the individuals who "picked players" that performed the best.

The client asked what insurance companies might insure them, suspecting that most insurance companies wouldnt have a standard insurance policy to cover a unique business of this nature. I thought Id ask whether any Phers either offered or knew the best place to go a highly specialised insurance quote of this nature.

Yes, but I think the question is what risks are you insuring for?

A good question, but I dont yet know the specifics of what client wants insurance for, negligence amongst other things Id imagine - but more to the point, hes after an individual or insurance company who can put together specialised quotes for unique business ideas, as "Similar to the Suns Dream team" wont be a fixed price default option on any of the Major insurers quote systems. Apologies for the lack of info, I have nothing else at this stage.

You need to consider what risks you require cover for. You can get a quote quite easily for an "Office package" policy which would provide Buildings, Contents, Public and Employers Liability and then look at Professional Indemnity, Directors and Officers and business interruption. I hope this helps

Is professional indemity the element which would require a custom quote, covering negligence for example, or are they two separate things?

A custom quote as you put it is available for any type of risk. PI cover is not something you can normally get from the internet but if you try a good local broker they should be able to help. The internet has "educated" everyone that buying insurance is best over the web and this is NOT the case with any type of policy and a good broker is worth their weight in gold....Guess what I do for a living?
