Anyone here have any experience taking students on placement? We have a marketing orientated project ideal for a student on a sandwich course, I think.

I would be interested to hear experiences, and how you went about recruiting. I notice there are commercial organisations out there offering recruitment services, but I assume that it is possible to deal directly with universities.

Any advice appreciated.

Jon,

We (I) sponsor things at the local University, and advertise on the relevant notice boards within. Currently Sponsoring the Best Disscertation.

Find that a few Students write asking if they can have a placement - then just case of setting it up.

There must be a list somewhere of the top universities in the UK for Marketing degrees? Fire off a quick letter to each of them asking about placement students.

At my place we had a noticeboard on which jobs were posted. Not that many mind you and I ended up in one which I arranged myself but a couple of mates did the advertised jobs after lengthy recruitment processes and a lot of badgering. They then ended up back at the same company soon after graduation.

If you get mail shots from people and they also mention that they've seen the job advertised at their university then get them in for an interview. The people who only reply to the posted jobs tend to be the type who can't be arsed to be proactive.
