A friend of mine, Lee, who is a computer genius, has been made redundant, with his team, in the last 48 hours. He is looking for work. Like myself, he is based in the East Midlands.

I can find out a bit more about his epxertise, but he is desperate to find work; he has a mortgage to pay! If anyone can help, PM me asap!

HI Rich

i think it will help his case if you can find out a little more about what specific skills he has, as the title computer expert may not help everyone.

Give him a buzz and ask him to write a paragraph that you can post on here, also get him to post his CV straighht onto www.jobsite.co.uk and www.jobserve.com , that may help with getting the phone ringing.

Also post this in the PH jobs section, and possibly the computer section to, if you have not already done that. Hope he gets something fast.

I'm sure your friend is very good at what he does but if I saw a CV with that kind of management-bks-speak in it, I'd have a laugh and then probably bin it!

Maybe it means something to someone in his particular market sector but, to me, it's just a load of trendy jargon that tells me nothing about what he does or his skillset.

Anyway, that's just a particular bugbear of mine - don't pay any mind to me wink Hope he finds something soon

Your friend is an IT Project Manager. 8 years is a long time to have not progressed to a more senior level. He's now in no mans land in the IT world.

The difficult decision for him is deciding between PM or development. Development teams are always going to more techie than him so will give him a hard time particuilarly the dev managers. If he's still aren't great it could be difficult.

If it's PM then he'll need to show some experience with Prince2 or Agile methodologies. I've yet to see pure Prince2 work well, but I have seen Prince2 work well from the PM methodology prespective coupled to DSDM for the development methodolgy.

Oh, I always reckon it takes about 6 weeks to get a job and 3 interviews.

I've got a killer CV with the right keywords that he could use as a template if you're interested; never failed. Just drop me a PM.

I know what you mean LL but I'm guessing you work for a law firm and to be fair we are a long way behind the rest of the business world!! I left the commercial world in 1999 to go into law and my law firm is just about starting to recognise the things that the global company I worked for in 1999 was talking about then!!

I'll interpret it for you.

It means he's got an ego which may or may not be matched by talent.

an alternative translation is:-

I'm great at writing meaningless phrases that initially sound good but are in fact random selections of bullst and buzzwords.

Go easy on the guy! Just look where he has come from.

Has your man ever thought of trying his skills on his own venture?

I own Mobile Business Magazine which reported on this yesterday - http://www.mbmagazine.co.uk/index.php?option=com_c...

Anyhow, the guy's CV reads right for what he does - can you ping me salary expectations.
Cheers,
Don

Hey guys; the chap has had the mis-fortune of being made redundant. I've posted on here in case anyone can help with regard to another job; it's not a post with the heading "please criticise my frieind's abbreviated CV as much as possible".

If anyone knows of anything going, then please, let me know. I've linked him into this thread, so I'm sure that he'll appreciate anything positive at this hard time...
