after doing the deal there was a free 2 year "invite" to play golf for free with up to 4 people.

not got time for golf though, just wondered if i would be billed for it.

could the tax man bill me for the golf in anyway or is it a legal loophole?

edit to add, whos up for a game of golf? smile
Not too sure on this one, in theory, should be fine, don't mention to the tax man you have the free invite - unless the invoice for advertisingwink says otherwise?

I say i'm not too sure, because up until recently, football clubs, for instance, Ipswich Town, were doing match sponsorship, where you pay to sponsor a player, or the match ball, and in turn your company would appear in the match day programme. As a result, you'd get X amount of 'free' tickets, but they've stopped doing it now due to the revenue catching on - this is according to my last conversation with their sales office where I was requesting the bill to be worded that way hehe

I would just invite the taxman a couple of times. I don't think they mind the god stuff being handed out, as long as they get some! smile

Seriously though, I don't think he would ever find out?

Did you psy the sponsorship in the expectation of a "freebie" in return. It seems to me you didn't and that you only paid for the placement of advertising. That is a legitimate business expense and is a fully allowable cost in your business accounts.

However, if YOU invite clients or employees of clients to make use of the access to the golf club - you could be creating a responsibility on THEIR employers to declare this "perk" in that employer's P11d Benefit in Kind form for the relevant employees or directyors.

You are in the clear unless you allow your own staff to use the club facilities as that would create a Benefit in Kind for you to deal with as an employer.

If your business is a limited company and you are a director of that company, you would also bring a BIK charge on yourself if you personally use the golf club offer.

yeah i was going for the adverts, main banner on the top of their club site down the side for a couple of years etc etc, thought it was a better spend than a local rag or somthing as its showing support to an organisation of which they might show their support in return smile

tbh ill probbably not use the golf although it would be nice in the summer i guess to have a few rounds . . . . . . .

we are ltd though eric, since these are invites with no fee attached (usual price is £40 per round) and me being M.D. what BIK should i expect?

  • goes off to look at some golf clubs*
The BIk would be based on what you would normally pay for whatever facility you use at the club.

last time I played (and the only time i've played on a golf course) i won a compass and a life guards whistle for coming in last place.

I have got a meeting next week about a similar thing. 8 off peak rounds a month for the next 2 years. I will have an A5 advert in the driving range and I will be invoiced £599 for the advert.
