Obviously more of a joke everyday.

If the company decided to increase the rate it pays to use youir own car for business to say 56p to reflect true fuel costs, would the extra 16p be a BIK?

How about those who have a company car for whom we pay 9p a mile in fuel? Surely as that is entirely fuel there can be no argument that as fuel costs have risen, servicing and interst charges have fallen (which I understand is HMRCs argument as to why it has been 40p for years).

Certainly that argument is looking far less valid now.

Yes. If your fuel costs that though, I would recommend not running the Dodge Viper for business mileage. Or at least not all the way in 2nd gear... smile

Does anybody know if there is a No10 petition on this issue.

Strikes me that HMRC are playing it dumb because there was a report in the press last week about how motoring costs have risen in the last 2 years which made a mockery of any notion that reduced interest rates and servicing costs have balanced out the increases.

read some other place that it favours small and economical cars, so if people want bigger cars, they get to pay for it themselves, suspect there will be no changes

also a change to corporate manslaughter laws means company cars better for employer as they gurantee it gets serviced and not have to rely on the user not cutting corners on the servicing which could result in their death and the director going to court

Even if your motor does 60 to the gallon of diesel it costs about £54.15p for 10 gallons which is just about covering the fuel at 9p a mile, and even at 12p to the mile you have to be doing 45mpg.

It's never going to work, what's the point? Aside from the motorist and the City I'm not sure there's anything else keeping the Country afloat, I wonder how long it will be until Darling files for bankruptcy.
