trying to become carbon neutral-help(any info)
Discussion
i currently run an engineering welding fabrication business, making performance car parts as well as general welding, and am looking into becoming carbon neutral, as have interests in the environment (strange for my business i know), im a sole trader with just myself working. ive looked on the net, but cant seem to find any help. just wondering if theres any companies on here that have become carbon neutral or know what is needed to come CN. ive got access to land to plant trees, and and trying to use companies that are already CN, or is it more that that. any info would be good thanks.
If you operate as a business and want to sign the business off as a carbon neutral company then you need to pay a company such as The Carbon Neutral Company a big wad of cash to get people in developing nations to switch off their reverse osmosis pumps for hard cash.
When I looked a while ago, a small business has a flat cost of £750 through them, which gives you logo use, a clear conscience and pretty much f
k all else.

£750! For a couple of meaningless words that the target customer will no doubt not give a damn (rightly so, it's nothing more than a legalised scam, IMOHO)chris watton said:

Forget whitewashing & spin, greenwashing is the next big thing.

"Carbon neutral" is, in my view, nothing more than a marketing gimmick.
+1.Anyone who advertises themselves in this way
is try to pull in bleeding heart liberals
and Guardian readers.
Why not go for something that attracts a wider
audience like "cheap" or "effective" ?
Of course, there is the hard core for whom the
words "Carbon Neutral" is the signal for them
to look for another vendor.
take a look at http://www.carbontrust.co.uk lots of good info on there. Sign up for the publications which you can download.
There are also grants available for small companies. Also worth talking to Electricity Suppliers - they have £50m each to invest in reducing energy consumption (and hence carbon) for customers. Preferably (to them) other elect co's customers ;-)

I'll do it for £475...But seriously, 'carbon-neutral' is just the latest version of 'Investor in People', the latest must-have logo to stick on your letterhead.
