NGO or Charity Organisation
Discussion
Dear all,
A very good friend of mine is about to graduate from University with a Law degree. So far, no plans have been made for next year or the the ones after that. She expressed a strong interest in working for The Red Cross or something similar, with the aim of working abroad. Unfortunately she was put off from the idea as she said that it was very difficult to get into these companies and that you need to know someone 'to get your foot in'.
I think it would be a huge shame for someone of this calibre willing to work for charity to put off by something that sounds like a myth. My plea here is does anyone work for one of these companies or know someone that does work for an organisation similar to this?
Many thanks,
Chris

Have they tried Google?

I know several people who work for charities and the interesting thing is they treat it just like any other job. I am sure the 'cause' attracted them to the organisation in the first place but day by day its the same as everyone else.
Of course volunteering is completely different.

I might be able to help on both fronts..
1) My Mother used to work for the Red Cross, although they have since relocated the headquarters, might know 1/2 people there...
2) My wife works for a law firm, in Oxford, if she's interested.
PM me if it sounds like the sort of thing that could help.
