Salary Overpayment
Discussion
Chaps,
I am writing on behalf of a friend who does not have access to computer!
He received a letter from his employer and state that they would deduct £50 from his wages this month.
The letter says :-
"DEDUCTION FROM SALARY"
I write to advise that following overpayment, and with your agreement, we have deducted £50 (gross) from your wages in May 2008"
My friend does not understand why he got overpayment - he checked his last payslip and the hours he worked was correct. What is the next steps ?
Thanks
T

It sounds like he needs some questions answered such as:
Why do I owe you anything? (How much, when)
How did it happen? (e.g. whose fault, should he have reasonably have known)
How did I give you permission when I haven't been asked about it? (may have signed something when starting work such as a 'general' statement)
