Where to find a job?
Discussion
Not for myself butI would also find the info usefull.
As you are aware, the moment you put your CV onto monster ect you get hounded by seemingly crap consultants and agencies.
They want to get their figures and send you on a wild goose chase for interviews and such.
I and my housemate who is seeking a new role want to know what is the best way to get out there and find the jobs. As browsing monster is proving to be all rubbish now.
Do you scan papers? Special websites?
I have got both of my jobs by applying via company websites. But that doesnt help if I have no idea the company I want to work for..
Any help much apreciated

Depending on your area of expertise - I'd say find a reputable agent in that area (google), then send them your CV and give them a call. I'd stay as far away from submitting my details online as possible.
If you're IT based - Jobserve is the place to go for job browsing (although as with most sites, a lot of the positions will be fictional).

The job centre. Seriously.
I'm a degree qualified Mechanical Engineer. Didnt bother going in to graduate recruitment schemes by virtue of an oversight (actually, more like shortsighted contentment in carrying on what I'd been working as whilst at Uni).
Come January after graduation I had no job and all grad recruitment schemes were closed for applications and wouldnt have had start dates before August anyway. So I went to the jobcentre.
Tried blagging my way in to a job, didnt get anywhere near being sucessful, but the agents it put me in contact with got me 2 interviews within a couple of weeks and the 3rd contact they provided me with has seen me sat here for the last 2 years.
Rather than using something like Monster, I would approach specific agencies specialising in what you work in and get them referring you for jobs and emailing you jobs they think you should go forward for.
