I'm getting an XJ6 Tdi Sovereign on test later this week with a view to starting a proper chauffeur circuit in my area.

I've got a couple of contracts lined up that will start me off (doessn't need to be huge, I'll run the Jag as a personal car until the work builds up).

Looking for contacts in the Kent area that would use this kind of service.

Sorry for the blatant plug, but in my experience if you don't ask you don't get hehe

Not just corporate work, I'd look at VIP work as well. Thanks biggrin

How about approaching Chilston Park hotel? Near Maidstone, and may be "suitably VIP" to require such a service?

Hi King Richard,

I started a similar business model about 2 years ago. I'm now able to pull myself away and let it run by itself within minimal input/administration.

It is a very tough and competitive area to get into. Well it was especially in my area.

You will need to do some advertising/marketing.

Set some sort of pricing policy for yourself.

Day rate/hourly rate
Rate to the airports
Rate in the city
Waiting time
etc

If you have a substantially better car than your compeition then don't be affriad to price yourself higher.

The only thing I will recommend to you is:

Service is the single biggest thing in this business.

Let me know if you need to know anything else.

Currently I have a couple of drivers/website/great clients.

PS. you might need to get a creditcard machine and business bank account.

Hello mate.

I've got all the infrastructure I need from my existing cab company www.longleysprivatehire.co.uk

Phones, telephonists, booking & despatch system, website, credit cards / merchant account etc.

So I just need to buy a car (which I'll do anyway), find some work and put on a suit. I'm very customer focussed anyway, and I know how to lay on a show for important customers (even in a cab) - I'll change appointments for customers if they are stuck in traffic, check train timetables, book tables, get them VIP entry to bars etc.

I'm quite nifty around town. Just want to extend that with a nice motor and some high-rolling customers biggrin

Funnily enough I dropped a couple of newlyweds there last weekend which prompted the chauffeur thoughts really smile

If it picks up, I have a few drivers that I could instantly put into the chauffeur side (guys with real presence and manners). But I'd want to trial it myself initially.

Not a business I know anything about, but I regularly use a company not too far away who provide a higher class private car, works very well indeed for them. They've got quite a few drivers on their books and run a fleet comprising of high end saloons and people carriers, S Class Mercs, beemer 7 series, a Jag, a couple of 300C's etc etc etc.

Having chatted to the drivers and so on, they all seem to have nothing but good things to say about the market they're in. They get business from the local football club, where obviously the higher up chaps dont want to be seen getting into a 406 banger, but want something nice and fairly discreet, and also a lot of work from the local port (snigger), merchant navy officers regularly leaving and joining, and a couple of the best restaurants in the area.

Higher end restaurants, football clubs, hotels and so on would all be worth tapping up, sure competition is stiff as it were, but with a car as pretty as the jag I'm sure you won't have a problem hehe

They openly admit to charging the most they can for the service, as obviously the cars cost a lot more to buy and run, but they niche they've carved for themselves sees that they're never short of work, and the clientel they attract seem only too happy to pay the extra for the level of service.

Not sure if it's quite the market you want to be in, guessing you're looking for the next step up from that, but from the perspective of someone who regularly uses the service, it's cracking compared to the crap taxis you normally get around here and worth every penny when the employers are picking up the tab.

When you say not too far away, do you mean in the North East, or down near me in Kent?

Are you going to run the VIP/executive service as a separate issue?

Get the car detailed and visit the local 5 star hotel/expensive resturants.

If it is only you to start with be careful to spread yourself thinly. There is nothing nice about turning away jobs when you are already booked for that slot.

It's going to be like Longleys 'Plus'... We'll offer an upmarket car for long distance journeys and advertise weddings initially - then we can start to build on the corporate and VIP work. Dependant on volume of work I'll put someone in it full-time and buy another one, maybe a bentley in a matching colour if there is enough demand for the service.

Just found out I've got a LWB direct from Jaguar through my contact at Government Car Service, and I've got it for a week. That means I can get out and about with it and pimp it around the TV studios, radio stations, hotels, down the golf club etc. Big step in the right direction yes

Hello mate, how's tricks?

That site looks good. I can't find any costs listed on the site. Any idea how much it costs to advertise on there?
