The one I use is a busy one. He gets through, on average, about 90 cars a day.

If half were outside washes only, at 5.00 a go; and the other half were inside/outside cleans at 10.00... = £675 a day or roughly 4k a week. I think the hotter days, especially weekends, these guys will hit higher targets...

Most of goes in their pockets.

Or does it...? Cost of materials + rental of plot / rates + staff wages...

'Ayub' seems to be doing quite well whatever the circumstances.

The one near(est) me started on a bit of waste ground, with a container. They all lived in the one container - lovely.

Was interesting to watch the business grow, they added marquees, then lighting, then moved into a rented house, then better signage etc.

according to my local 'inside boss?' car wash they're busier in the winter - dirtier cars and too cold for people to DIY

he also said that the market is saturated and they're starting to buy each other out

mini valet will be £15 by this time next year

Did you ever go to that one in the old Jet filling station at Henley's Corner? Next to Kwik-fit on the Finchley Road on the way into Hampstead Garden Rhubarb?

Run by Kosovans, they were getting through up to 150 motors a day.

Heading into Temple Fortune (Finchley Road) from the NCR, there's a Texaco on the left and as you pass it, there is Kwik-Fit on your right. Slap bang next to it is a Jet (shut down now). About a year / year and a half ago, that place was heaving with cars... turns out the Kosovans got skanked in a moody lease-holder manouvre.

On this subject, if someone designed a car wash that actually did a really good job (ie washed the wheels properly) would this make the hand washers redundant?

I'm thinking about doing this at home.

I've got a 13 year old brother I could pay with porn mags and fruit pastels and charge £10 a pop.

scratchchin

Would keep me occupied on a Saturday morning

Not really, the company dissolved in the past few months; a very bad example to use!!!

Does anyone have indicative costs for starting one up, there is an oppertunity near me that i am currently thinknig of. The ones I pass in Leeds seem to be professionally branded, with new forcourt signage and a common coour scheme with great big blow up "statue", they always seem to be busy, especially in winter time, and charge £6 per car.

The garage I have seen is not leeds based.

The current items I can think off are; (in no particular order..)

Workforce - sufficient for each aspect of the clean
Equipment
Identity - uniforms/overalls/signage/forecourt signage to canopy
Set up costs - legal etc

??

Any help would be appreciated.

Annual stuff...
Accountancy costs
Public liability insurance
Employers insurance
Electricity
Water (probably have to be on a meter)
Repairs/renewals of equipment
Telephone
