I am having a ongoing battle with a company that sells airport parking online.

They have refused to give me a VAT invoice for all of my bookings. The comapny is VAT register.

I have around £500 in expenses to recover from the ocmapny i work for and they will not pay as they have not got a VAT invoice. I have a basic recipt but not one which states the VAT number and VAT element.

Are the companies required to issue a VAT invoice on request? if so what tax law requires them to do this

MAny Thanks

Steve

If they're VAT registered they have to show the VAT number on receipts/invoices.

If its got a VAT number its a VAT reciept.

They are not required to if each receipt (parking charge) is under £25. If it is over £25 they are legally required to give you and invoice. IIRC this rule only applies to parking charges, telephone calls and toll charges. Your comapnay can claim the VAT back withou the VAT number. They can read all the gory details here
