Anybody in engineering/manufacturing?
Discussion
I joined a small (500k p.a. turnover) manufacturing company and we are looking to double turnover over the next 5 years through targeting end users more and exporting more to Australia / India (where we already have some small exposure).
My plan for this country is through targeted mailshots to end users, arrange visits to present our product range, and ultimately win more business. I am fairly confident that there is more business out there to be won, its just this company just hasnt really gone looking for it in the last 10 years, with only a minimal amount of marketing exposure.
Does anybody have advice on the best way to turn contacts into sales? my previous roles in sales have not been in the industrial market so techniques are probably a little different.
Any advice is much appreciated. TIA

Perhaps design a small sample product that’s high quality and very relevant with your contact details on it. Eg, a pencil holder pump. They probably won’t throw it away due to perceived value and hopefully gets your foot in the door. Then offer to make their products better quality at a reasonable price!
Depends what sort of pumps you are producing and the extent of competition. The pump industry is a bit of a funney one because of the amount of rationalisation and takeovers over the last 10 years.
Is you rpoduct special in some way? E.g. high accuracy dosing pumps, plastic pumps etc or are they just bog standard chemical pumps?
Anyway. A suggestion I would have would be making friends with someone like Nalco, one of the biggest chemical and chemical dosing players in the market. Maybe you've got a pump that fills a need they have?

We manufacture plastic pumps from solid for the best corrosion resistance so we are specialist in that respect.
We did send out USB drives with a powerpoint brochure on them, which was popular, but thus far hasnt really developed sny major sales.
Im anticipating a long hard slog of reminding potential customers what we do through visits/emails/letters until they have a particular need/requirement.
Are you in the pump market Dusty? It sounds like you are quite experienced with it.
