If the fraud does indeed relate directly to business tax, then either your local tax office or that of the alleged fraudulent company is the first port of call.

If it’s a wider issue then BERR may be worth a shout. We had a client do the nasty on us a few years back (one of many victims as it turned out) and it was the DTi that lead the investigation and prosecution.

Other than that, try the BiB!

(and you can’t go posting something like this without at least giving us a bit of meat to chew on!)wink

You likely will get investigated as well if you as a biz have traded with them significantly.

Yep – You certainly will. Not a problem if you’re squeaky clean.

If you have suffered financial loss as a result of the other company’s fraudulent behaviour, you really need to go through a solicitor.

If you haven’t, but are – for example – pised off at a competitor benefiting from fraudulent behaviour, then an anonymous letter to the IR suggesting they take a look at their books is probably the best course of action.

If you are going to openly accuse a company or individual of fraud, you need to be 100% certain that it is fraud and not ineptitude – which for a company director is still an offence but not in the same league as fraud.

It's tax avoidance, and I don't have any connection with the company.

FYI Tax avoidance is not illegal (otherwise every accountant in the land would be out of work). Tax evasion is however

are you sure that doing the governments job for them is necessary? trust me they don't need your help to make life very very difficult for most companies.

please think very hard of the consequences of you reporting a company.

Agreed, why would you feel the need to report them? Unless they are really taking the piss and paying no tax at all i'd leave it. A good accountant is all about reducing the tax liability, that's what i pay mine to do but i still pay thousands in tax.

The difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion is about 9 inches (width of a prison wall) - so which is it!?
